University of South Carolina, Apr 15, 2015 (emphasis added): Dwindling bird populations in Fukushima… as several recent papers from University of South Carolina biologist Tim Mousseau and colleagues show, the avian situation there is just getting worse… They recently published a paper in the Journal of Ornithology showing results from the first three years…Many populations were found to have diminished in number as a result of the accident, with several species suffering dramatic declines… What might be most disheartening to the researchers involved, and bird-lovers in general, is how the situation is progressing in Fukushima. Despite the decline in background radiation in the area over these past four years,the deleterious effects of the accident on birds are actually increasing.
Dr. Tim Mousseau, USC biologist: “The declines have been really dramatic… now we see thisreally striking drop-off in numbers of birds as well as numbers of species of birds. So both thebiodiversity and the abundance are showing dramatic 
impacts in these areas with higher radiation levels, even as the levels are declining.”
CBS News, Apr 16, 2015: Near site of Fukushima disaster, birds still in peril… birds are becoming a rarity around the damaged nuclear site… “There are dramatic reductions in the number of birds”… Mousseau told CBS News. “In terms of barn swallows in Fukushima, there had beenhundreds if not thousands in many of these towns where we were working. Now we are seeing a few dozen of them left. It’s just anenormous decline.”… Around Fukushima, Mousseau predicts the worst may not be over… “So now we see this really striking drop-offin numbers of birds as well as numbers of species of birds. So both the biodiversity and the abundance are showing dramatic impacts in these areas with higher radiation levels, even as the levels are declining.” Mousseau said the reason comes down to the long-term impact of the radiation. “It takes multiple generations for the effects of mutations to be expressed…”

Mousseau, March 2015: Cumulative effects of radioactivity from Fukushima on the abundance and biodiversity of birds… overall abundance and diversity of species on average decreased with increasing levels of background radiation… the relationship became more strongly negative across years… Although there has been great public interest concerning the ecological, genetic and potential health consequences of the Fukushima radiological disaster, basic research to date has been surprisingly limited… Recent seminal studies of butterflies exposed to radioactive contaminants associated with the Fukushima disaster found strong evidence for increased mutation rates, developmental abnormalities and population effects as a direct consequence of exposure to radionuclides… Murase et al. (2015) made an equally compelling case for radiation having a negative impact on reproductive performance in the decline of Japanese goshawks.

Mousseau, 2015: Many species occur both at Chernobyl and Fukushima, allowing a test of similarity in the effect of radiation on abundance….among the 14 species occurring at both sites [the] slope of the relationship between abundance and radiation for the 14 common species was… much stronger at Fukushima… [Since 2011] the effects of radiation on abundance became much more severe.

ZORO Tools, Dynamex and Grainger Did a Great Job!
Not long ago, I ordered some fuel through Zoro. The fuel that we run in our Stihl 460 Chainsaw, the leaf blower and everything else with a small engine that we want to last. Gasoline really sucks nowadays.
Anyway, for less than $75 for 5 gallons, was a deal that I could not refuse, 5 gal of premix for 2-strokes: Small Engine Fuel, 2 Cycle, 5 gal., Appearance Blue, Flash Point (F) -22 Degrees , Specific Gravity 0.7-0.8 @ 68 Degrees F, Engineered for Carburetors and Fuel Injection Systems. So, I placed my order. They sent me an email confirming, and one letting me know it shipped. The first time, it shipped, UPS freight. I waited, then contacting them for a tracking number. They emailed back and said that it should have delivered the day before, that I should contact UPS. I did. UPS said that they showed that it arrived, but no one knew what happened to it. I waited after 3-4 phone calls to UPS, and a week’s time, I contacted Zoro again.
Zoro did great, they said that they would deal with UPS from that point forward, and they set up a new shipment and sent it through Dynamex this time. After several days, I contacted Zoro for a tracking number. They advised that I should contact Dynamex for tracking. I contacted Dynamex and found out that they had tried to deliver, several days before I contacted them. They said that the delivery guy had come out, no one appeared to be home, and the dogs scared him, so he left. Now my male is 250+ pounds
and the female is 130+ pounds.
So, that was believeable. I was told that they had tried to telephone me about the delivery, and had the wrong number.
I though yea, right. Then they told me the number, and I don’t know why, but apparently at some time or another, I had given my Mama’s house number. She died in 2001, but my brother still lives there, but no longer has that number. So that was a problem. Dynamex said that they had mailed the fuel back, when they could not get me on the phone. They checked to see if they could stop the shipment back, but it ha left already, and gotten all the way back to where it had shipped from. Dynamex then told me that Zoro is a division of Grainger, and that the local store might have the fuel to check with them. Well, you know, they could not cross the order, due to difference in part numbers.
So, I contacted Zoro again and told them the whole story. They were great, they said not to worry, and sent me out another order. They told me that when they send the email to let me know it had shipped, to contact Dynamex immediately and make arrangements for the delivery. I did as instructed, it was just the next day, when I contacted Dynamex, and they already had the fuel, said that it would be at my house shortly. A little while later, a man called and said to give him 10 minutes and he would be here. Within ten minutes, the delivery man was here, and I finally got my fuel. I was very happy!
Looking back on all that I went through to get the fuel, I realized what a jam up job all of these people had done. Everyone I dealt with, showed patience, understanding, in fact every one of them had a sense of humor about it. When the man had to tell me that the dogs had scared the delivery man, we all laughed, but seriously when two huge wolves are standing there giving you hell, it can be unnerving.
I just wanted to share that with everyone. Sometimes, an experience like I went through can be so annoying, and the seller is not so easy to deal with. Not in this case, everyone from Zoro, Dynamex and Grainger that I dealt with, were wonderful, and made it much more easy for me to deal with the problems. I realize now also, that part of the problem, was that they were so much on the ball, that I did not realize delivery would come so quickly. It really threw me for a loop. It sounds crazy, the company was so efficient, that I missed my order twice. Funny, but true, and they were all wonderful about it.
Great companies to deal with, yall try out Zoro, Dynamex, and Grainger, they will not let you down!

NHK, Apr. 10, 2015 (emphasis added): About 160 dolphins washed ashore on a beach in Ibaraki [50 miles south of Fukushima border]… A local aquarium says this type of dolphin… is usually found in deeper waters. It says it is unusual for so many to be washed ashore.
Japan Times, Apr 11, 2015: 149 melon-headed whales [washed up] in Hokota. Seven more were stranded in nearby municipality of Kashima.
AFP, Apr 10, 2015: Television footage showed several animals from the large pod had been badly cut, and many had deep gashes… “We see one or two whales washing ashore a year, but this may be the first time we have found over 100 of them on a beach,” a coastguard official told AFP… Several animals were writhing in a futile effort to move.
Inquisitr, Apr 10, 2015: A Japanese coast guard official has said that he is witnessing this phenomenon for the first time in his life… According to BBC News, these species of dolphins are usually only found in the deep waters of the ocean. It is extremely rare for them to show themselves up on the beach… this might be the biggest single case of mass beaching of dolphins that have been reported from Japan… This case of dolphins beaching themselves is eerily similar to another phenomenon that has been noted recently… young sea lion pups ending up on the beach – starving and dazed.

Mainichi, Apr 11, 2015: Kashima Coast Guard station transported and released three of the melon-headed whales… but most of the dolphins died and were buried on the beach… According to Toshiya Kishiro, head of the whale resources group at the National Research Institute of Far Seas Fisheries… a possible reason for this most recent beaching is that the dolphins had parasites in their inner ears.
AP, Apr 10, 2015: Tadasu Yamada, a cetacean expert at the National Museum of Nature and Science [said] the dolphins may have had a physiological or psychological problem and faced an unknown threat and panicked…
Yamada: “We don’t see any immediate signs of diseases on their bodies, such as cancer. We want to figure out what killed these animals.”

AFP, Apr 11, 2015: The mass beaching… has fuelled fears of a repeat of [the 2011] earthquake… a flurry of online commentators pointed to the appearance of around 50 melon-headed whales… six days prior to the monster quake… More than 100 pilot whales died in a mass stranding on a remote New Zealand beach on February 20, 2011, two days before a large quake… Japanese officials nevertheless tried to calm fears and insisted there was no scientific data to prove the link.

A raccoon that was reportedly acting strange in the area of the Mineral County Courthouse has tested positive for rabies, according to humane officer Melissa Kidwell. Kidwell said the Keyser Police Department had received several reports of the suspicious animal, but no one had been able to locate it until an employee of the courthouse saw it between the courthouse parking lot and Center Street and called Mineral County 911. Kidwell responded and was able to destroy the animal and send a specimen away for testing. “It was stumbling and blind in one eye,” she said, noting that the signs of the disease were unmistakable. This is the first animal that has tested positive for rabies this year in Mineral County. Kidwell noted that sighting animals such as raccoons, skunks and opossums in the city is not unusual; “it’s just how they’re acting” that people need to be aware of. The Mineral County Health Department, which sends the specimens away for testing, is urging everyone to “be cautious and stay away from animals acting strangely or aggressively.” The health department is also reminding all pet owners to make sure their dogs and cats are vaccinated against rabies. Mineral County is holding a spring rabies clinic on Saturday, April 11, from 9-11 a.m. in the parking lot at Tractor Supply, Keyser. Cost is $8 per animal, and pet owners are asked to bring the correct change. Dogs should be on a leash and cats should be contained. West Virginia State Law requires that all dogs and cats be vaccinated against rabies after 6 months of age.

The county’s third confirmed case of animal rabies this year was discovered today in a raccoon on South Tremont Drive. According to a news release from the Guilford County Department of Health and Human Services, the raccoon came into contact with a dog. All domestic pets in North Carolina aged four months and older are required by state law to be vaccinated. Guilford County Animal Control will offer a series of rabies vaccination clinics over the coming months. The cost of a shot is $5. They will take place the following dates and locations: April 15, 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., WGHP Fox 8 studio, 2005 Francis St., High Point. April 16, 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., WGHP Fox 8 studio, 2005 Francis St., High Point.

AP, Mar 27, 2015 (emphasis added): [It] was billed as a way to decipher where, exactly, the morass of nuclear fuel might sit at the bottom of reactors… But what went wrong, even in a simple demonstration for reporters… was a sobering reminder of the enormous challenges that lie ahead… a programming glitch could not be fixed in time for Friday’s demonstration… No one knows where the molten fuel debris lies, and in what shape or state. [TEPCO] has said it likely sank to the bottom of the plant. But the fuel could have dropped even beyond. Tadashi Yotsuyanagi, an official in charge of the muon project at Toshiba… acknowledged the technology will not be able to get the complete image toward the bottom of the reactor… David Ireland, a professor who heads the Nuclear Physics Group at the University of Glasgow, said muons may be the only way to probe inside atomic reactors. “There are not really any other noninvasive options that will allow inspection,” he said in an email.
The Japan Times published the AP report above, however one sentence was altered. “Tepco has said it likely sank to the bottom of the plant. But the fuel could have dropped even beyond” vs. “But the fuel could possibly have escaped even beyond the containment facility to the outside environment.”

Part 4: “If the cooling is not successful, it means the corium melts through the vessel… When this massive amount of corium enters into the containment zone, there are very, very many different energetic consequences… Interaction of molten core and concrete starts… concrete is eroding, and this eroding of concrete, for a long time it was known as China Syndrome.”
Part 5: “The corium will be in 3 parts, there is a solid crust formation in the bottom of the pool, then there’s a pool of oxidic materials… The metals and oxides are not soluble with each other and the metals will be separated… which is bad news in the sense that the heat transfer to the vessel is much higher, and it’s much more difficult to guarantee the integrity of the [containment] vessel in that case.”
Part 6: “Molten corium on the containment floor, it’s eroding the concrete and going partially downward. Actually it will never go to China, because it also erodes sideways… The final size of the pooling maximum case is 10 to 15 meters in diameter, and 6-7 meters [20-23 ft or 2 stories] deep — or even deeper.”
