Viral Photo Of Black Woman Praying With White Cop Gives America Something To Hope For
Racial division and the ongoing debate over law enforcement is appearing to reach a boiling point in America’s largest cities.
More than 10 police officers were recently killed or shot in multiple states after two black men were killed in an officer-involved shooting. The tragedies have sparked protests across the country.
Many Americans are frightened, worried, and sick of the back-and-forth tensions. But a powerful Facebook post which has gone viral is giving America hope.
In the photo, a Louisiana woman is seen praying with a sheriff’s deputy from Baton Rouge — and it’s resonating with people from all walks of life.
The photo was posted by Kim Muyaka, and above the photo of her and the uniformed officer praying reads the caption: “Violence is not the answer.”
Muyaka said in an interview that, “all lives matter: Christian lives, homosexual lives, all lives” and God called on her to pray with the deputy.
The 23-year-old said, “I’m not here to judge people, but we should remember that all lives do matter. We all bleed the same color once we’re cut.”
Muyaka described what prompted her to pray with the officer, which led to the powerful photo that has been shared over 20,000 times:
“I had been praying about the situations going on in America, based on what happened in Baton Rouge and Minneapolis and Dallas, all over the place. Then God dropped in my heart that I need to reach out to someone else to pray with, someone outside my race. I wondered, “What if I don’t find someone to do that with?”
“When I was at Benny’s Car Wash putting air in [the] back tires, I saw the deputy making sure everything was going well and in order and I knew — this was the opportunity.
As I approached him, I honked my horn and told him to come to my car. I slowly opened my car door and said to him, “Sir, God has put on my heart to pray with you, not against you.”
As he grabbed my hands I could feel the fear inside him, and his hands were shaking. After I finished praying, he was relieved.
Most of the time the cops are doing their job. Nine times out of ten, it’s not about the cops. If a black person kills a black person, no one gets mad, but if a white cop kills a black man, everyone’s upset.
Today, judgment is all based on color. It should be based something totally different — color has nothing to do with what’s happening. I’ve seen things that happened to white people that I don’t approve of, too.
All lives matter: Christian lives, homosexual lives, all lives. I’m not here to judge people, but we should remember that all lives do matter. We all bleed the same color once we’re cut.”
Muyaka then added she wants to hold a prayer service for peace in Baton Rouge.
